About Us
The Fund was formed in 1968 as an amalgamation of:
The Cornwall Constabulary Widows’ and Provident Fund
The Devon and Exeter Constabulary Widows’, Orphans’ and Compassionate Fund
The Plymouth City Police Widows’, Orphans’ and Provident Fund
The Fund is a Registered Charity: Reg No 256931

The Fund functions within the rules approved by the membership and Charity Commission.
The Fund is managed by a committee of trustees whose members are elected annually and represent all ranks of the Constabulary. In addition there are three retired officer trustees elected by the National Association of Retired Police Officers, one representing each of the original constituent constabularies. Additional Trustees may be co-opted at the discretion of the Fund Management Committee. All Trustees are members of the Fund, except where specifically waived by resolution of the Committee.
The object of the Fund is to provide financial aid to members or their dependants who are in need.
Newly widowed or surviving partners of Fund members can apply for a grant which subject financial need and the approval of the Management Committee is currently set at £6,000.
Orphans (if 16-21yrs must be in full time education to qualify) of Fund members subject to financial need and the approval of the Management Committee receive an annual grant of £1,700 each.
Grants can be authorised by the Management Committee for payment to serving officers, retired officers, widow(er)s, surviving partners and orphans in circumstances of specific financial need. In cases of emergency, the Executive officers of the Management Committee have discretion to authorise urgent grant payments of up to a maximum £3,000. Any such action is then reported to the full Management Committee at the next meeting.
As well as members donations, funds are raised from social functions and sponsorship events etc organised within the Force, public donations, legacies, station enquiry collection boxes, public donations and investment income.
